Coventry prides itself in being known as The City of Peace and Reconciliation, so when the local Justice and Peace Group discovered that local investment monies were supporting the cluster bomb trade, there was no option but to take a stand. This was done at the Annual Inauguration of the Local Council which takes place in Coventry Cathedral.

A small group of Presentation Sisters, Associates and others stood in silence at the Cathedral’s entrance as the Coventry City Council Members processed into the Cathedral.  Our stance, albeit a silent one, broke the stillness of the moment and made the desired impact as Paul McGowen from Pax Christi wrote “changes have occurred in the pattern of investments in the arms trade, which we claim to be the result of our sustained pressure, both in specific firms and in the overall level of investment.”  We will continue to campaign in order “to cease production of these terrible weapons”.

As  the Coventry Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Group we believe in doing what we can, where we are, in the moment for the protection of our sacred people and our beautiful planet.
