Sr Loreto renews her vows during a ceremony to celebrate
her Platinum Jubilee

Seventy years of walking in close companionship with God in the footsteps of Nano Nagle - that was what the celebration was all about on 20 April 2016, the Platinum Jubilee of Sr Loreto Houlihan as a Presentation Sister.

It was an outpouring of gratitude, a renewal of commitment a commemoration of selfless giving and a song of praise to God. Priests, Sisters, and friends joined together to celebrate Sr Loreto’s life of service.  The Irish Ambassador to India, Brian McElduff, Sr Loreto’s nephew Joseph O’Brien and cousin Margaret Hayes were special guests for the day.

Sr Rose Savarimuthu from the South India Leadership team expressed gratitude, saying: “We are here to celebrate the years you have so generously spent in loving service to the people in India.  There is no doubt that your life has been a life of giving, poured out in love.  Your very life is an awesome gift to our Congregation and to the people at large, who have benefitted from your generosity.

with a gift to mark her milestone jubilee

“Your tenderness is such that you will never join in any criticism.  On the contrary, you always have something good to say about another person.  Your sparkling eyes, welcoming smile, words of encouragement, fidelity to the person of Jesus and loyalty to the Congregation paved the way for you to becoming an exemplary Presentation Sister.  Your gracious self has touched so many people whom you have encountered across cultures and religious traditions, down the years.

In your ministry, especially with the Charismatic groups, you were a shield of encouragement and comfort to so many people, who still hold you in great regard.”

Mr McElduff appreciated Sr Loreto for having left her homeland to work in a new land at the tender age of 17 and wished her many more years of service in her mission.   Her nephew spoke of the fond memories he had of his dear aunt. Sr Loreto was overwhelmed with gratitude to her Presentation family, her family and friends who joined her for the celebration.
