Sli Nano Pilgrimage Walk

image

Over 300 pilgrims, including Presentation Sisters, parishioners, Friends of Nano in Ireland and some delegates of the Congregational Gathering 2018 participated in the walk.

The pilgrimage began with a welcome and brief commentary by Sr Mary Deane, pbvm on the life of Nano and her childhood experiences in this beautiful place, surrounded by green fields, rivers and mountains. This was followed by a short drama by school children, a word of thanks from Sr Mary Hoare, pbvm and a blessing by the Parish Priest, Fr Condon.

The pilgrims moved in procession to the tune of bag-pipes. It was a touching scene, as we walked from the Nano Nagle Centre out towards the Nagle Mountains, while on the way pausing at different places where we were welcomed by school children through dance and song.

The local community offered wonderful refreshments at the local community centre which was greatly appreciated by the thirsty pilgrims.

All who took part felt it was a wonderful way to be close to Nano’s spirit.

Ballygriffin – by Sr Raphael Consedine, pbvm

A little girl grew here.

For her, brownstone house was home,

its fireside love and peace.

The blossoming hedgerows sang freedom,

the river told stories of places far away,

while beyond, dreaming mountains called.

A little girl grew here.

Because of her,

children in far-off lands learn love and freedom.

Living water flows for them.

Their eyes search the everlasting hills.
